Is the 2020 tour cancelled due to the Covid-19 epidemic?
Yes. The Gardens by the Sea Tour has been postponed. We will hold it next summer on June 11 & 12, 2021.

How can I buy tickets?
Purchase advance sale tickets online or by mail. Tickets can also be purchased at the Stonington Garden Club Tent on the day of the tour. Please visit the Purchase Tickets page for more details.

Where can I park?
Parking volunteers will be on hand to direct you to the closest parking lot after you drive over the bridge into Stonington Borough. Please visit the Parking & Directions page for more details.

Can I wear high heels in the gardens?
Heels could disturb the terrain of the gardens and are not permitted.

Where can I pick up the tour guidebook and map?
A guidebook will be provided on the day of the tour when you purchase or pick up your ticket at our Stonington Garden Club Tent.

Where can I eat?
There are more than eight eateries within a 1/2 mile of Wadawanuck Square and all of the gardens. Please visit our Food & Drink page for a complete list. We recommend making a reservation when possible. Friday, 12:30 PM join us for our Celebrity Luncheon at the Stonington Harbor Yacht Club. Please visit the Celebrity Luncheon and Lecture page for more information.

How many gardens will I see?
The tour will include 8 private gardens and feature the Stonington Community Center’s Learn and Grow Garden. This Learn and Grow Garden is the Stonington Garden Club’s major community project. After several years of fundraising, the garden was completely redesigned and will be the highlight of our tour. All of the gardens are within walking distance.

How much time does it take to complete the tour?
The tour is on foot and all of the Gardens are within a 1/2 mile radius. Many visitors begin the tour at 10 AM, eat lunch and finish the tour by early afternoon. Others might start later and take advantage of shorter lines during lunch time. Late afternoon is typically less crowded and visitors find shorter lines where they can visit gardens more quickly.

Is it a self-guided tour?
Yes. Each garden is clearly marked on the map provided in the guidebook. Docents will be in every garden to offer further guidance.

How difficult is it to access the gardens?
Stonington Borough is flat for the most part, but some parking lots must be accessed by a short hill. The majority of sidewalks are cement; some are bluestone and cobblestone. A variety of hard-scapes exist in the gardens and their may be slopes in the terrain that make it difficult for wheelchair access.

Do you have restrooms?
Yes. Restroom locations are marked on the guidebook’s tour map.

How will I find the gardens?
The map in the tour guidebook clearly shows the location of each garden. A host will be at the entrance of each garden. Look for a green umbrella.

Are children allowed?
Yes. Children 17 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Strollers and baby carriages are not allowed in the gardens. Children 5 and under do not need a ticket for the tour. All other children must have a ticket.

Are pets allowed?
Pets – except service animals – are not permitted.

Is photography allowed?
Each garden has its own photography policy. Check with the volunteers to find out where you can take pictures.

Are tickets refundable?
No. The tour takes place rain or shine.

Is this a fundraiser?
Yes. The Stonington Garden Club is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. After expenses are met, 100% of proceeds from the tour are donated to local, state, and national horticulture, environment, and conservation causes projects and organizations. Please see the List of Projects & Organizations for details.
