The Stonington Garden Club is full of talented floral designers that enthusiastically share their beauty and artistry. The club seeks to stimulate interest in the art of floral design and to educate its members at all levels of expertise an experience. Members often use their talents on behalf of organizations such as The Stonington Historical Society, New England Science and Sailing, (add more) other community partners in their local beautification and service initiatives. Club members participate in floral design competitions on the local, regional, national and international levels, serve as flower show judges and provide education in floral design.
GCA’s guidelines and requirements for producing flower shows are among the subjects studied by this committee. In addition, floral design basics and advanced classes are made available to committee members through programs and field trips. Educational and inspirational activities range from demonstrations by local florists who teach flower selection and conditioning, color, line, styles, and the use of basic utensils and interesting vessels to particular projects.
The committee sponsors a general membership meeting each year in consultation with the program chair.
By the end of 2017 we will have a garden documented for the Smithsonian.
